What percentage of the students surveyed chose an apprenticeship?

At Eastbrook College, Year 13 students were asked what they planned to do next. Of the 120 students surveyed, 54 chose university, 42 chose an apprenticeship and the remaining 24 were undecided. Advocates of apprenticeships point out that trainees earn a wage from the first day and finish without tuition debt. A careers adviser, Ms Patel, explains that 'employers value experience, and an apprentice has three years of it'. University supporters respond that a degree opens doors to professions, such as medicine and law, that no apprenticeship leads to directly. However, Ms Patel notes that degree apprenticeships are increasingly available in fields such as engineering and accountancy. She concludes that the best route 'depends entirely on the career you are aiming for'.
