A hall has 1,248 chairs set out in equal rows of 24. How many rows are there?
Answer and explanation
Correct answer: B. 52
- Step 1: Divide the chairs by the row length: 1,248 ÷ 24. Step 2. 24 × 50 = 1,200 leaves 48, and 48 ÷ 24 = 2, so there are 52 rows. Answer: 52. Why not the others: 48: This would give only 1,152 chairs (48 × 24). 62: This would give 1,488 chairs (62 × 24), far too many. 54: This would give 1,296 chairs (54 × 24), which is still 48 too many.
