In a class of 30 pupils, 18 play football, 14 play hockey and 5 play neither. How many play both sports?
Answer and explanation
Correct answer: B. 7
- Step 1: Pupils who play at least one sport: 30 - 5 = 25. Step 2. Adding 18 + 14 = 32 counts those who play both twice. Step 3. 32 - 25 = 7 play both. Answer: 7. Why not the others: 2: This forgets about the 5 who play neither, 18 + 14 - 30. 5: This is the number who play neither sport. 11: This is the number who play football only.
