A regular hexagon has sides of 8 cm. A square has the same perimeter. What is the area of the square?
Answer and explanation
Correct answer: A. 144 cm²
- Step 1: Perimeter of the hexagon: 6 × 8 = 48 cm. Step 2. Side of the square: 48 ÷ 4 = 12 cm. Step 3. Area = 12 × 12 = 144 cm². Answer: 144 cm². Why not the others: 64 cm²: This is the area of a square with the side of the hexagon. 48 cm²: This is the perimeter of the hexagon, not the area of the square. 2,304 cm²: This squares the perimeter of the hexagon, 48 cm, as though it were the side of the square.
