What is the next number in the sequence 2, 5, 7, 12, 19, 31, ... ?
Answer and explanation
Correct answer: C. 50
- Step 1: Each term is the sum of the two before it: 2 + 5 = 7, 5 + 7 = 12, 7 + 12 = 19, 12 + 19 = 31. Step 2. 19 + 31 = 50. Answer: 50. Why not the others: 43: This adds 12, the term two places back, instead of the previous term. 62: This doubles 31. 49: This is one too small, from a slip in the addition 19 + 31.
