Four friends share a taxi fare of £28 equally. They also add a 15% tip to the fare. How much does each friend pay?
Answer and explanation
Correct answer: A. £8.05
- Step 1: Fare plus tip: £28 × 1.15 = £32.20. Step 2. Share between four: £32.20 ÷ 4 = £8.05. Answer: £8.05. Why not the others: £7.00: This leaves out the tip. £7.15: This adds 15p instead of 15% of the fare. £32.20: This is the total for all four, not each share.
