What does Hess's law state?
Answer and explanation
Correct answer: A. The total enthalpy change of a reaction is the same however many steps it takes
- Step 1: Enthalpy is a state function. Step 2. So steps can be added to find an unknown value. Answer: the total change is independent of the path. Why not the others: In carbon dioxide, carbon is bonded to two electronegative oxygen atoms with oxidation number +4; 0 is elemental carbon; and -4 occurs in methane.
