The price of a bag of maize rose from KSh 120 to KSh 150. What is the percentage change?
Answer and explanation
Correct answer: A. 25% increase
- Step 1: Change = 150 - 120 = 30. Step 2. Percentage change = change / original x 100 = 30 / 120 x 100 = 25%. Answer: 25% increase. Why not the others: 20% increase: That divides by the new price instead of the original price. 25% decrease: That has the right size but the wrong direction. 30% increase: That treats the shilling difference as a percentage.
