A transformer has 100 turns on the primary coil and 500 turns on the secondary. The primary voltage is 110 V. What is the secondary voltage?
Answer and explanation
Correct answer: D. 550 V
- Step 1: Vs/Vp = Ns/Np. Step 2. Vs = 110 × (500 ÷ 100) = 550 V. Answer: 550 V. Why not the others: 22 V is what you get if you invert the turns ratio. 115 V is what you get if you add instead of multiply. 5500 V is what you get if you misplace a power of ten.
