A syrup contains 125 mg of a drug in 5 ml. How many ml contain a dose of 250 mg?
Answer and explanation
Correct answer: C. 10 ml
- Step 1: 125 mg are in 5 ml, so 1 mg is in 5/125 ml. Step 2. 250 x 5/125 = 10 ml. Answer: 10 ml. Why not the others: 6250 ml: the quantities were multiplied instead of using a ratio. 2 ml: the volume factor of the syrup was left out. 20 ml: the volume was doubled.
