Marcus stood outside the school doors, gripping the strap of his backpack. The hallway ahead looked huge, and the noise of hundreds of voices made his stomach tighten. He took a deep breath and stepped inside. A girl with a green scarf smiled and asked if he knew where room 12 was. Marcus pointed to the sign on the wall. 'Right there,' he said, surprised that his voice sounded steady. Maybe this year would not be so bad after all.
