A body of volume 0.01 m³ is fully immersed in a liquid of density 1000 kg/m³. What is the upthrust? (take g = 10 m/s²)
Answer and explanation
Correct answer: B. 100 N
- Step 1: Upthrust = ρVg (weight of liquid displaced). Step 2. = 1000 × 0.01 × 10 = 100 N. Answer: 100 N. Why not the others: 10 N is what you get if you leave out g. 1000000 N is what you get if you divide by the volume. 200 N is what you get if you double the result.
