A body of volume 0.005 m³ is fully immersed in a liquid of density 1200 kg/m³. What is the upthrust? (take g = 10 m/s²)

Answer and explanation

Correct answer: C. 60 N

  1. Step 1: Upthrust = ρVg (weight of liquid displaced). Step 2. = 1200 × 0.005 × 10 = 60 N. Answer: 60 N. Why not the others: 6 N is what you get if you leave out g. 2400000 N is what you get if you divide by the volume. 120 N is what you get if you double the result.
