Two resistors of 5 ohm and 20 ohm are connected in parallel. What is the equivalent resistance?
Answer and explanation
Correct answer: A. 4 ohm
- Step 1: For parallel resistors, R = R1 R2 / (R1 + R2).
- Step 2: R = 5 x 20 / 25 = 4 ohm.
Answer
4 ohm.
Why not the others: '25 ohm' adds the resistances as if they were in series; '12.5 ohm' averages the two resistances; '100 ohm' multiplies without dividing by the sum.
