Which statement about breaking chemical bonds is true?
Answer and explanation
Correct answer: A. It absorbs energy
- Step 1: Energy must be supplied to pull bonded atoms apart, so bond breaking is endothermic. Energy is released when new bonds form. Answer: It absorbs energy. Why not the others: Releasing energy happens when bonds form, there is always an energy change, and giving out light is not a general feature of breaking bonds.
