A reservoir holds 20 million cubic metres of water and loses 2 million cubic metres to evaporation. If 3 million cubic metres are supplied to towns every month, for how many months does the remaining water last?
Answer and explanation
Correct answer: B. 6 months
- Step 1: First subtract the loss: 20 minus 2 equals 18 million cubic metres. Step 2. Divide by the monthly supply: 18 divided by 3 equals 6 months. Answer: 6 months. Why not the others: 7 months ignores the evaporation loss, 5 and 8 are other arithmetic errors.
