Which statement best describes the relationship between Marta and her father?

Each evening, before the lamp was lit, Marta climbed the one hundred and twelve steps to the top of the tower and polished the glass until she could see her own face in it. Her father never asked her to. He only noticed, some nights, that the brass rail had been wiped and the lens was cleaner than he had left it. He said nothing, but he began to leave a small tin of polish on the bottom step, with the lid already loosened. In winter, when the sea rose and the beam swept the waves, he would stand beside her at the window and name the ships by the pattern of their lights.
