Which sentence has a dangling modifier?
Answer and explanation
Correct answer: B. Walking to school, the rain started pouring down on my new jacket.
Answer: Walking to school, the rain started pouring.... Why not the others: In the others, the walker is stated as 'I', so the meaning is clear.
- Step 1: A modifier must describe the noun that follows it.
- Step 2: In 'Walking to school, the rain started pouring...' the opening phrase seems to describe 'the rain', which cannot walk.
