Why do the researchers say that 'efficiency alone does not give a full picture'?
A company in Cairo allowed half of its employees to work from home for six months, while the others worked in the office. Managers measured the number of tasks completed per week. Those at home completed more tasks on average, and fewer of them left the company during the period. However, when the employees were asked about promotion, those who worked at home felt less likely to be noticed by senior managers. The researchers suggested that companies should consider both productivity and visibility when they design remote work plans, because efficiency alone does not give a full picture of an employee's experience.
Answer and explanation
Correct answer: B. Because workers may be productive and still feel overlooked for promotion.
- Step 1: The passage describes high productivity at home together with worry about promotion. Step 2. So efficiency data misses how employees feel about career chances. Answer: Because workers may be productive and still feel overlooked for promotion. Why not the others: Tasks were measured successfully; home workers left less often; the home group completed more tasks.
