Why did the first robot turn in circles?
When Madina joined the school robotics club in September, she could not tell a motor from a sensor. The club had only six members and one old laptop, but its leader, Mr Karimov, believed that every problem could be broken into small steps. In October the club decided to build a robot that could follow a black line on the floor. The first version kept turning in circles. The members tested the sensors one by one and found that one had been fixed on the wrong side. After they corrected it, the robot moved smoothly. In December the club entered a regional competition. They did not win, but they came fourth out of twelve teams, and the judges praised their clear notes about every change they had made. Madina now teaches new members how to read a sensor.
