Answer and explanation
Correct answer: B. Anastomotic leak or abscess, investigated with an abdominal CT
- Step 1: Fever and abdominal pain a week after a bowel anastomosis point to a leak or collection. Step 2. CT with contrast shows free fluid, gas and abscesses. Answer: Anastomotic leak, CT scan. Why not the others: Atelectasis and urine infection occur earlier and do not explain the abdominal pain. Thrombosis causes leg symptoms.
