Why is distance driven in each condition also required? (Passage: Autonomous vehicles)
Proponents of self-driving cars argue that they will reduce road deaths, since most crashes involve human error. Opponents point out that today's systems have been tested mainly in good weather on mapped roads and that statistics from these conditions cannot simply be applied to rain, snow or unfamiliar streets. A regulator has therefore required that any company seeking approval must report separately its crash rates in each weather condition, and its distance driven in each.
Answer and explanation
Correct answer: B. A crash rate is only meaningful relative to how far was driven
- Step 1: Think about rates. Step 2. A rate per distance requires the distance. Answer: A crash rate is only meaningful relative to how far was driven. Why not the others: Fuel, limits and ages are not mentioned.
