Of 50 students, 27 have a bicycle, 29 have a scooter and 16 do neither. How many have a bicycle but do not have a scooter?
Answer and explanation
Correct answer: D. 5
- Step 1: First find those doing both: 27 + 29 - (50 - 16) = 22. Step 2. Those doing only the first = 27 - 22 = 5. Answer: 5. Why not the others: 27, 7 and 6 each come from skipping the overlap or the 'neither' group in the working.
