A coach driver records one trip.
TripDistance (km)Time (hours)
Depot to port601.5
At the same average speed, how many hours would a 90 km journey take?

Answer and explanation

Correct answer: B. 2.25 hours

  1. Step 1: Speed = 60 / 1.5 = 40 km/h. Step 2. Time = 90 / 40 = 2.25 hours. Answer: 2.25 hours. Why not the others: 1.5 hours is the ratio of the distances, not a time (90 / 60); 0.75 hours is only the time for the extra 30 km beyond the recorded trip; 1.35 hours multiplies the recorded time by the distance divided by 100, which has no meaning here.
