An L-shape is made by cutting a 4 cm by 3 cm rectangle from a corner of a 10 cm by 8 cm rectangle. What is the area of the L-shape?
Answer and explanation
Correct answer: A. 68 cm squared
- Step 1: The whole rectangle has area 10 x 8 = 80.
- Step 2: The cut-out has area 4 x 3 = 12.
- Step 3: 80 - 12 = 68.
Answer
68 cm squared.
Why not the others: 80 ignores the cut-out, 12 is the area of the cut-out only and 92 adds it instead of subtracting.
