Which sentence is punctuated correctly?
Answer and explanation
Correct answer: A. "Where are you going?" asked Mum.
- Step 1: Direct speech that is a question keeps its question mark inside the speech marks.
- Step 2: The words 'asked Mum' follow with no capital letter and no extra comma.
Answer
"Where are you going?" asked Mum.
Why not the others: A comma instead of a question mark loses the question, a question mark outside the speech marks is misplaced and a comma after the question mark is not needed.
