Why does a pyramid of energy always have an upright shape?
Answer and explanation
Correct answer: A. Energy is lost as heat, in respiration and in waste, at each step between trophic levels
- Step 1: At each trophic level most energy is used in respiration, lost as heat or left in waste and uneaten parts. Step 2. Less is therefore available to the next level, which makes the pyramid narrower towards the top. Answer: energy is lost between levels. Why not the others: energy does not grow or stay constant between levels.
