A driver at 144 km/h looks away from the road for 2 seconds. How many metres does the car travel in that time?

Answer and explanation

Correct answer: B. 80 m

  1. Step 1: Speed in m/s = 144 ÷ 3.6 = 40 m/s. Step 2. Distance = 40 × 2 = 80 m. Answer: 80 m. Why not the others: 288 m results from having treated km/h as m/s. 40 m results from having counted only one second. 120 m results from having added an extra second.
