The length of a rectangle is twice its width. Its perimeter is 54 cm. What is its area?
Answer and explanation
Correct answer: B. 162 cm squared
- Step 1: Let the width be w, so the length is 2w and the perimeter is 2(w + 2w) = 6w.
- Step 2: 6w = 54, so w = 9 and the length is 18.
- Step 3: Area = 9 x 18 = 162.
Answer
162 cm squared.
Why not the others: 81 is the area of a square of side 9, 108 uses a width of 6 and 243 uses 9 x 27.
