A floor measures 3 m by 2 m. It is covered with square tiles that are 50 cm by 50 cm. How many tiles are needed?
Answer and explanation
Correct answer: B. 24
- Step 1: Change to centimetres: the floor is 300 cm by 200 cm.
- Step 2: Along the length there are 300 / 50 = 6 tiles and along the width 200 / 50 = 4 tiles.
- Step 3: 6 x 4 = 24.
Answer
24.
Why not the others: 12 uses tiles of 1 m by 0.5 m, 48 uses tiles of 25 cm by 50 cm and 6 counts only the length.
