- Step 1: Total = 78 + 197 + 131 + 83 + 181 = 670. Step 2. Average = 670 ÷ 5 = 134. Answer: 134. Why not the others: 131 is what you get if you give the median. 670 is what you get if you forget to divide by 5. 119 is what you get if you give the range.
