What problem does the text describe?
In an age of constant notifications, reading a whole book has become a challenge for many. Psychologists suggest that our attention is being trained to jump between short pieces of information. 'Slow reading' groups, where members read a chapter quietly together and then discuss it, are becoming popular. Organiser Tom Hale believes the benefit is not simply finishing books. 'It is practising concentration, like exercising a muscle,' he explains. Some members admit they began attending to escape their phones, only to discover that they enjoy conversations about ideas. Sceptics argue that the trend is simply a fashion, but attendance has doubled in a year.
