According to psychologists, why do open organisations learn faster?

Entrepreneur Samira Khan keeps a 'failure CV' on her website, listing every project that did not work out. It began as a joke, she admits, but it has become the page that visitors read most. She says the list helps her team to see mistakes as information rather than disasters. Business psychologists note that organisations which discuss errors openly tend to learn faster, partly because staff are less afraid of being blamed. However, they warn that the approach only works if managers respond calmly. 'If people are punished for admitting a problem,' says one, 'they will simply stop telling you.'
