What is mentioned as a disadvantage?
In an era of tablets and voice recognition, an unexpected object is selling well again: the manual typewriter. Sales at specialist shops have doubled in five years, and buyers are often under thirty. Shop owner Jan Mortimer thinks she knows why. 'Young people tell me that a typewriter does one thing, and that is a relief,' she says. Without notifications or an internet connection, writers say, it is easier to focus. There are drawbacks, of course: mistakes cannot simply be deleted, and ribbons are increasingly hard to find. Even so, 'type-in' events, where strangers meet to write letters, are now held in dozens of cities.
